Martin Scherfler

Martin is the co-founder of Auroville Consulting. He has more than 15 years of experience as a consultant working on sustainable development-related initiatives. His passion lies in catalysing positive change, and currently, he is at the forefront of pioneering research in the power sector. Martin’s focus is on shaping policies that drive a just energy transition in India and beyond. In his dynamic role, Martin collaborates closely with central and state-level government departments, leveraging his expertise in policy research, program design, and innovative solutions. Martin is actively contributing to the transformation of the energy landscape, working on long term energy transition for Tamil Nadu state, including capacity building, policy research and data backed implementation studies.

His undertaken assignments involved:

The development of a 10-year renewable energy sourcing plan for Auroville township, supervising implementation of Phase 1, including vendor selection, technical specifications, project management, reporting and performance monitoring.

Developing a long-term energy efficiency and renewable energy sourcing strategy for HDBRTS Company Ltd., Department of Urban Land Transport, Government of Karnataka.

Sustainable Energy Transformation of Tamil Nadu (2019 – ongoing) involving:

Support to Tamil Nadu Government in designing of KUSUM-C scheme (solar for agriculture).

Consulting services to the Tamil Nadu Government in drafting the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy 2019.

Advisory services for solarization of government buildings in Tamil Nadu to TEDA.

Reports and publications on energy transition and renewable energy integration. 

Stakeholder consultation with policymakers and private sectors to accelerate the transition towards a renewable energy future.

Armed with a master’s degree in Sociology from Austria, Martin brings a unique blend of academic rigor and real-world insight to his endeavours.
