What does honest carbon accounting look like in a year of rapid growth? How should an organisation respond when its emissions rise? The Auroville Consulting Annual Sustainability Report for FY 2025–26 presents an overview of our environmental and organisational performance, with a specific focus on greenhouse gas emissions, clean energy, resource use, waste management, and workplace culture.
The intention of the report is to account for our operational carbon emissions, promote data transparency, and evaluate the effectiveness of our internal sustainability practices over the financial year. Our approach follows the methodology set by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ensuring standardised and comparable data. The carbon inventory covers Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, along with emissions avoided through renewable energy and low-carbon commuting.
A Year of Expansion, Reflected in Our Carbon Footprint
FY 2025–26 was a year of growth in the scale of our engagements. This included completing district-level MSME decarbonisation workshops across all 30 districts of Tamil Nadu under the City and Industry Decarbonisation Initiative (CIDI). Our gross emissions rose to 26,105.41 kg CO₂e, compared with 9,398.89 kg CO₂e in FY 2024–25. The increase is driven by increased project-related travel and a one-off purchase of durable goods for office set-up. After offsets of 10,303.62 kg CO₂e, net emissions stand at 15,801.78 kg CO₂e. Additional tree planting is underway as we work towards carbon neutrality, building on the progress recorded in our FY 2024-25 report. For context on what credible net-zero action involves, see the Science Based Targets initiative’s net-zero guidance.
Auroville Consulting’s Impact: Key Highlights
- Transport, which includes work travel and employee commute, accounts for 82.20% of gross emissions. Scope 3 makes up 99.84% of the inventory, which is typical for a service organisation. WRI’s Scope 3 Standard explains how these indirect value-chain emissions are defined and reported. Scope 2 remains at zero.
- We remain energy positive. Our rooftop solar system generated 16,855.36 kWh against 11,006.07 kWh consumed. The 5,849.29 kWh exported to the grid avoided 4,737.92 kg CO₂e. The International Energy Agency tracks how renewables like solar are reshaping electricity systems worldwide.
- Our e-bike scheme, now in its fourth year, avoided 5,565.70 kg CO₂e through low-carbon commuting.
- 100% of our food waste was composted, and all other waste was segregated and sent to Auroville Ecoservice for recycling and reuse.
- Our annual Team Pulse achieved a 100% response rate and an average score of 3.27 out of 4, with mentoring identified as the key area for growth.
